The ABC Network, who is owned by Disney, has picked up a second network television series from Marvel, also owned by Disney. They have just renewed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D for a second season. Now they will add Agent Carter to the alphabet lineup.
Agent Carter is based on a mini episode from the Iron Man 3 DVD/BlueRay. This movie brings back the character of Peggy Carter from Captain America: The First Avenger. This series pick up with the former girlfriend of Captain America, Peggy, finding herself marginalized by the return of military men after World War II. She will end upworking for Howard Stark and be cast into the life of espionage.
Some people would see this series as a huge gamble for ABC. It is a series set in the post World War II era which is not standard for Network television. The lead character is a single woman in an action role which is often frowned upon by networks. But ABC’s relationship with Marvel is very strong. I think this show has fantastic potential. Good for ABC.
It is interesting Marvel has a network television show about a minor Marvel female character but yet D.C. can’t seem to find a way to get Wonder Woman in a starting movie or television role.
