Somehow I missed that yesterday was the 25th Anniversary of the awesome movie, Batman. Happy Anniversary Batman!
Tim Burton directed Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson is this instant geek classic. It proved the super hero movies could be KOOL when most believed they weren’t.
I loved this movie when it came out in 1989. I watched it on open night at midnight. I saw it several times that year in the movie theater. I received it on VHS for Christmas and wore the movie out at college. In fact, my roommate used the movie for some sort of English report. This quickly became one of my top 5 movies and it still is there.
Without this movie’s success, I doubt we would have other great comic book movies like Spider-Man, X-Men, and eventually the Avengers movies. Yes, Superman I and II were great successes but super hero movies had lost favor and been terrible after Superman II until Batman.
In my mind, this is the best Batman movie ever. Yes, even better than the Dark Knight, which was sensational.
Below is a great video from 1988 from Warner Bros about the making of Batman. They used this video to not only promote the movie but to convince people that someone other than Adam West could be Batman. They had to convince a lot of people that Batman could be dark and not a comedy and it worked.
