CBS hasn’t announced any cast members for their upcoming Supergirl series. But they have announced the secret identity of Supergirl and her foster sister. Supergirl will be known as Kara Danvers.
Traditionally Supergirl has had a few names. Her Kryptonian name is Kara Zor-El. Her Earth name was originally Linda Lee and lived in an orphanage when she came to Earth. Then she was adopted by the Danvers family and became Linda Danvers. The CBS series will combine the names and make her Kara Danvers.
I am a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to characters names. I would have rather had her called Linda Lee or Linda Danvers when she is in her secret identity. But I can see the confusion some people would have when she then goes by Kara when she is Supergirl. But it doesn’t mean that I have to like it.
On the Kara will have an older foster sister on the show. Her name will be Alexandra “Alex” Danvers. She will be an intelligent scientist. Alex will work for a secret government organization (I wonder which DC secret government organization it will be).
As the series’ mythology goes, Kara at age 12 was sent from her dying home planet of Krypton to Earth, where she was taken in by the Danvers, a foster family who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers. After repressing said skills for more than a decade, Kara is forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster. Energized by her heroism for the first time in her life, she begins embracing her abilities in the name of helping the people of her city, earning herself a super moniker along the way. (TV Line)
