Lost In Space is a classic science fiction television series from the mid 60s. It aired for three seasons with 83 episodes (that is a lot of episodes a season). The original series was set in 1997.
The United States sent a family of astronaut explorers, the Robinsons, to colonize another planet. An enemy of the United States sneaks on board and sabotages the mission (it was the cold war). This caused the family to miss their colonization planet and to become lost in space with their saboteur, Dr. Zachary Smith.
The show was a typical 60s comedy with the bumbling Dr Smith adding comedy. Yet it was set in space and could be a little scary with the monsters and intense situations. “Danger Will Robinson” from the Robot became the most quoted line in the series.
The new Lost In Space series on Netflix will take things to another level. Described as “epic but grounded science fiction” (Deadline). It will focus on a family of young explorers lost out there in space. It will be a similar concept but with a new facelift. Netflix looks to make this part of their family entertainment so it will be family friendly.
