Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hit theaters like a hurricane. It dominated the first weekend with a record breaking $166 Million in box office sales just in the United States. But since then, the pace has considerable slowed for this film. Batman V Superman has brought in 862.9 Million in global box office sales and $291 Million domestically. (THR)
This movie did cost $225 Million to make in production. By the end of post production and promotional advertising, it was an expensive movie to make. $862 Million is a lot of profit but it may not be the level of success that Warner Bros and DC Comics expected especially after the weekend. Domestically, the Deadpool movie, which was “R” Rated, has made more than Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
This film continues to be plagued by terrible reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics only gave this movie at 28%. The audience score is a much higher 68% but much lower than most superhero movies. In comparison, The Dark Knight has a 94% for both critics and audience.
Rumors are swirling around the conflict between Warner Bros and director Zach Synder. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice didn’t perform to the lofty goal of $1 Billion globally. Warner Bros are not happy with the direction of the Justice League movie and Synder’s vision for the DC Expanded Universe movies. (Batman-news.com)
Comic creator Gerry Conway has taken aim at Zach Synder, his directing of BVS, and his vision for the DC Universe. Conway is noted for writing the death of Gwen Stacy storyline. He is also the co-creator of numerous comic characters like The Punisher, Firestorm, Steel, Vixen, Jason Todd and Captain Carrot. He had several not so nice tweets about Synder. You can check them out here but some have curse words and are not safe for kids to read.
DC Comic movies have already seen a shake up with directors. Director Seth Grahame-Smith has left The Flash movie. There is a rumor than the Aquaman movie director, James Wan, is unhappy with Warner Bros interference and could be the next director to bail on the DC Comic movies. Things don’t appear to be going smooth for Warner Bros and their attempt to bring the DC characters to the big screen. (Geek Tyrant)
I don’t know the validity of the turmoil between Warner Bros and their directors. Their issues with Synder are being reported by numerous of sources. There is a ton of smoke so it appears there might be some fire.
