Freeform, formerly ABC Family, will have a new Marvel Superhero team series in 2018. The 90s superhot young team, The New Warriors, will come to television. The cast of character will be a little different than the original lineup but it looks like fun.
Marvel’s The New Warriors will has a 10 episode season. It will focus on the six young superheroes that form the team of New Warriors and their coming of age as heroes. They will learn how to deal with their abilities, super villains, and each other. Life isn’t easy for heroes but for teen heroes, it can be intense.
Kevin Biegel will be the show runner for the series. Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory are the executive producers.
Milana Vayntrub is best known as Lily on the AT&T Commercials. She is also known for her role on last year’s hit series, This Is Us, as Sloane. She will take on the role of Doreen Green, a.k.a Squirrel Girl.
Squirrel Girl has the powers and abilities of a squirrel including her Prehensile tail and her Razor-sharp claws. She has Superhuman agility, senses, and strength. She can even communicate with squirrels. She is often joined by her squirrel sidekick, Monkey Joe.
Jeremy Tardy will portray team leader and street hero Night Thrasher aka Dwayne Taylor. Derek Theler will be Mister Immortal, who cannot die but isn’t motivated to be a hero. Calum Worthy is Robbie Baldwin, aka Speedball, and he has the ability bounce around with his kinetic energy ball power and will be the comic relief. Matthew Moy will play Microbe, aka Zack Smith, with the ability to talk to germs. Kate Comer will be Deborah Fields, a low level telekinetic.
I loved The New Warriors in the early 90s. It was a fun and fresh young superhero team. I hope they portray the team properly. I know some of these characters can be humorous but they can also be awesome.
