According to CNBC, Disney and 21st Century Fox are close to making a huge deal. Disney will buy the rights to 21st Century Fox movies and television series. They will purchase the rights to FX and National Geographic. They will not purchase the rights to Fox News or Fox Sports or the Fox broadcast network. There is speculation that the agreement will be finalized by next week.
The estimated acquisition of the majority of Fox is about $60 Billion. Will this deal cost Disney around $60 Billion or will they settle on a different price?
Fox is also in discussions with Comcast to sell of these parts of the company to Comcast. The talks with Comcast has not picked up but the talks with Disney have heated up. The progress with Disney and Fox is quickly becoming a done deal.
Fox desires to narrow their focus. They want to stick to their Network, News channels, and sports. This is where Fox makes the bulk of their money.
There are several advantages for Disney to purchase these majority pieces of 21st Century Fox. Disney has announced their own streaming service where viewers will pay a monthly fee for access to Disney movies and television series. With this deal, they will have full rights to all of the Fox television series and movies. These could be included in their streaming service and make the deal even sweeter for viewers.
Marvel comic and Marvel entertainment fans are excited about this purchase. With the purchase of rights to Fox movies and television, the X-Men and Fantastic Four could come home to Disney and Marvel Studios. The dream of a movie crossing over the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man could be within grasp if this happens. We could see the Fantastic Four and X-Men show up in the Marvel universe as soon as Avengers 4. How KOOL would it be to see Johnny Storm and Iceman team up to fight Thanos?
Shout out to Keith Moncrief for seeing this coming long before the announcement of the talks a couple of months ago.
