The last two decades have become a haven of remakes and reboots. Just recently Warner Bros came out with a modernized movie version of the 70s/80s TV series “Chips”. I never 
watched the show or the movie but it didn’t do well at all. Paramount took the bait and did the same with “Baywatch”, I never watched this show either but considering VidAngel filtered this movie remake I gave it a try.
Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson towers in size and personality as he’s in the running for #1 leading man. He provides not only a ton of wise cracks but also a barrage of one liners as Mitch Buchannon, the leader of the “Baywatch” lifeguard team, who are tasked with keeping the bay safe and also fighting crime.
Tryouts for three new fish positions begin and the three people you’d expect would get them do, including Summer, (played by “San Andreas”’s Alexandra Daddario) and Ronnie, an overweight goofball (played by Jon Bass).
The third new recruit is two-time Olympic Gold Medal-winning swimmer, Matt Brody. Zac Efron continues his streak of absurdly raunchy roles in similarly misguided rom-coms (“Dirty Grandpa”, the “Neighbors” movies, “That Awkward Moment” and “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates”).
The “Baywatch” script is a bit cheesy and predictable. Corpse’s and illegal drugs wash-up on the beach, and shady, new property owner (played by “Quantico”’s Priyanka Chopra) shows up. She really doesn’t fit here at all and of course the cops don’t seem to care so that leaves the lifeguards to investigate.
“Baywatch” is not a spoof of the TV series it’s merely trying to turn the classic show into a modern comedy, hoping that the name, a couple of “inside jokes” and a few predictable cameos will attract fans of the old show. But for me I was more interested in the new cast.
“Baywatch” has an interesting cast of characters, suspense, and for a film that’s primarily focused on showcasing body parts (including an obsession with male genitals) there is surprisingly no female nudity. “Horrible Bosses” director Seth Gordon uses slow-motion in the action sequences in an attempt to cover-up some truly awful fire visual effects.
Overall, “Baywatch” feels like a mix of “Let’s be Cops”, “Horrible Bosses” with the antics of “Neighbors” And capping it all off: closing…credits…bloopers.
Rating Rated R for language throughout, crude sexual content, and graphic nudity
What the rating fails to mention is that the Nudity refers to male nudity; there is an abundance of cleavage here. I would definitely use VidAngel for this one
