Since 16 Candles in 1984, John Cusack has been an actor that I have liked. Through his crazy and zany years of Better Off Dead and One Crazy Summer, to the teen drama of Say Anything through High Fidelity and Gross Point Blank to Serendipity and 1408, John has been one of my favorite actors. He has lasted way past most of his peers acting in the 80s. He is a seasoned actor with a ton of range.
Getting to see John Cusack on this panel was a dream from my youth. There were a ton of great questions from the audience. He was friendly and had fun with the questions.
He was asked several questions about Better Off Dead and One Crazy Summer. In the past, it has been reported that Cusack held disdained for these movies. He stated that at the time, he didn’t fully understand that dark humor but has come to understand how didn’t these movies are.
Cusack was asked what scene he enjoyed most in Better Off Dead. He stated that enjoyed the scene where we fell in the trash truck. When asked how many takes it took the stuntman, he said, “I think I did that stunt.”
John was asked by a kid, “what was your favorite movie to act in?” John stated that he wasn’t sure and that he is “too old” to remember. He asked the child, “what was your favorite time playing?” The kid quickly responded with “a couple of days ago!” This caused a lot of laughter in the crowd. John replied with, “Oh what made it a great time playing?” The kid stated, “I played with some friends out in the woods.”
John Cusack appeared to be down to Earth and genuine. He stated this was his first comic convention but loved how people interacted with him during it so it wouldn’t be his last. But he is know to “Say Anything”. (Just joking, I am sure he was complete sincere about it.)
