Tribute to Kevin Watkins

Today is a very sad day for me and all of us in our community in Springfield, MO.  I found out my friend, Kevin Watkins, has passed away.  Kevin was co-creator of Lunchbox Press, writer for Listen to the Thunder and Graveyard Slaughter.   (Kevin is third form the right in the picture)

I met Kevin in 2016 when he and Adam were working on Listen to the Thunder.  At first glance, I wasn’t sure what to make of Kevin.   He came in very focused and showing his sleeve tattoos.  When I introduced myself to Kevin, a smile came over his face and immediately shook my hand.  I told him that I am with Geeky KOOL and he was very interested in our site and me.  Since we are both writers, we hit it off right away as we discussed the art of writing and storytelling.

Every time I saw Kevin, he always had a huge smile on his face.  He would call me by name like he had known me forever.  He was always smiling so wide.  He had a way of make me and everyone else feel like we are special.  He would go above and beyond to thank for me writing articles about Lunchbox Press and their comics.  He treated me like I write for Rolling Stone instead of Geeky KOOL

Over the years, I became more than acquaintance with Kevin. Kevin and I were friends.  He always made me feel special with every conversation.

Kevin and I had a lot of great conversations.  We talked about his family and how they were his world.  We would talk about my family.  He had an amazing heart.  We always talked about getting together and grabbing a bite to eat or playing a game but sadly it never worked out because we both had busy lives.  I wish I could have made that work instead of putting it off.

Kevin, we miss you already, my friend.  You were a bright spot shining light in Springfield. You made all of us better just by knowing.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Audrey Watkins and their daughters.
