According to The Hollywood Reporter, Doctor Strange will take over Tony’s role as Spider-Man’s mentor. Benedict Cumberbatch joins the cast for this yet to be named sequel. The regular cast form the first two movies are expected to return. Along with Jamie Foxx having been announced.
The announcement of Doctor Strange feeds right into the idea of the Spider-verse. We already know that Doctor Strange’s next film will be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It makes sense that he would be involved with a multiverse crossover and Spider-Man with two other versions. Those events could lead Doctor Strange right into the Multiverse of Madness.
