The woman in the photo above is one of the Icons when it comes to 1980’s Hollywood, Shelley Duval played Olive Oyl in the live action version of Popeye, and her best known role as Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubricks “The Shining”. Her last job was way back in 2002, in the MGM movie “Manna From Heaven”. After that movie was finished she moved to Texas(where she had previously worked on another film), and left the glitz and glamor of Hollywood behind. Well 20 years later, she is back in front of the camera in the Indie Horror Film “The Forest Hills” which is being Directed by Scott Goldberg. The DP(Director of Photography) /Executive Producer is my friend Scott Hansen. I have known Scott since around 2003, when he shot the music Video “Bleed Alone” for the Band I ran lights for “Revery”.
Scott subsequently moved to Atlanta, GA to open up his Studio “Digital Thunderdome”, and direct Indie Horror Films such as “The Possession Experiment” and “Bad Candy” Which took home numerous awards at both Horror Festivals and Indie Film Festivals.
Talking on Facebook, Scott said “it was not easy to get Shelley to agree to do the film, but she came in and knocked it out of the ballpark”. He also said “we had some wonderful conversations about her other work, and she told some amazing stories”.
Of course getting an Icon like Shelly Duval to be in your film, means you also get a LOT OF PRESS, and stories have run in both trade papers such as the Hollywood Reporter, and People Magazine, as well as news papers such as the LA Times https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/movies/story/2022-10-28/shelley-duvall-the-shining-first-role-20-years-the-forest-hills .
Another Amazing thing is that Indie God Kevin Smith, has offered to host the premier at his movie theater in New Jersey. With the movies being dominated by blockbuster Superhero Movies, it is nice to see the Indie films score such great coups like getting Shelley to make her return in their film. I will be keeping track of the progress of this movie, and let you know when it is released.
