Justice League Movie has a Writer

Will Beall is slated to write a Justice League movie according to Variety.  Beall is a known writer, who has written episodes of Castle, Gangster Squad (a movie to be release in September), and will write the new Logan’s Run and Lethal Weapon 5.  WB is confident that Beall will write a great super hero movie.  WB hired Beall to write the script last year.

It is no surprise that DC would announce Justice League after the “super” success of The Avengers movie.  WB has to be salivating at the  thought of a Justice League movie having the kind of appeal of Avengers.  Not only could this make a ton of money for their company but could increase sales and awareness of their DC Comics and the associated toys.

DC is not guaranteed to have the same level of success as Disney/Marvel did with the Avengers movie.  Marvel had several movies prepping for the Avengers.  Thor, Captain America, and both Iron Man movies were all hits. The general public became familiar with the characters and it became an easy transition the team up movie of the Avengers.

The general public is familiar with Batman and Superman. Most will know the character of Wonder Woman but many will not understand her. Many people saw the Green Lantern movie but will not be excited by his inclusion into this movie.  Some will be somewhat familiar with some of the other characters if they used to watch Super Friends but most people will be clueless about the characters of the Flash, Aquaman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Cyborg, or any other numerous potential members for the movie.

We know that Dark Knight Rises is egerly anticipated in July but there are rumors that Batman may die.  If he doesn’t die in the movie, there is still an issue of  Christian Bale stating that he will hang up the cape and cowl.  Who knows if next year’s “Man of Steel” movie will be the next incarnation of Superman II or the next Superman IV.  DC is movies written for some of their character that might make it into the Justice League (see below quote).  Can DC go into the Justice League on a winning note or will they attempt to win over viewers with memory of The Avengers.

DC Comics is a vital component of Warner Bros.’ intellectual property, as “Green Lantern” scribes Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green were tapped to write “The Flash” for director Greg Berlanti, while another “Green Lantern” scribe, Michael Goldenberg, was hired to write “Wonder Woman.” Additionally, Brad Peyton is working on a new draft of “Lobo,” while John Kamps and David Koepp are developing “Spy vs. Spy” as a potential directing vehicle for Ron Howard. WB also developed the “Aquaman” property several years ago.  ( Variety)
