Happy Star Wars Days! This is May the Fourth and May the Fourth Be with You! (For my Catholic Friends -“And also with your Spirit”). I am strong in the fourth and the fourth is strong in me.
May the Fourth is an awesome play on words for us geeky folk. In Star Wars, the saying is “May the Force Be with You.” It doesn’t take geeks long to jump at the fourth of May and celebrate an awesome geekdom. Because of this, May the Fourth became known as Star Wars Day.
This year it is also on the First Saturday of May so it is also Free Comic Book Day. See my post on it, here.
In May, there are two different celebrations of Star Wars fandom. We just talked about May the Fourth but May 25th is another one. May 25th is known as Geek Pride Day. It is the date that Star Wars was released to the public back in 1977.
Back in 1977, I became a Star Wars fan. I begged my parents at 6 years of age to take me to see this movie. I don’t think either one of them were that excited about it but I was. Everyone was talking about this film when it came out in 1977. My parent scheduled a time to take me to the Drive Inn to see Star Wars. My parents held it over my head for two weeks before I finally got to see this. The incredible sight of a Star Destroyer scrolling across a drive-in screen had me hooked. I have been a fanboy ever since.
We will celebrate Star Wars again come May 25. We will celebrate the dark side tomorrow with May the Sith… I mean May the Fifth.
Today we celebrate Star Wars and our fandom for Star Wars. It is a great time to be a Star Wars Geek.
May the Force and the Fourth Be with You unless you are Imperial then…
Stay Geeky!
