My Buddy, Mr. J. Christopher Wilson, is reviewing some movies and series. He has agreed to let us post his reviews here.
RED ONE is a ridiculously enjoyable, mythological, Christmas-based, buddy-cop-style, action-comedy mishmash of THE SANTA CLAUS, DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE, and the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS movies.
I love it. An award-winning, poignant film it is not, nor does it try to be. This film is about celebrating the season, but maybe not like you’d typically expect. With the exception of a reluctant anti-hero learning to embrace kindness and love rather than running away from his emotions and his humanity. Isn’t that what Christmas is all about?
How exactly does Nick go to apartments sans chimneys, and how in the world does he go all over the world in one night? Sprinkle some Christmas cheer and see the kid inside the naughty adults, and you’ll see why RED ONE is such a fun time and a new addition to my annual Christmas movie-watching line-up.
