Christmas Movie Review: Red One

Christmas Movie Review: Red One

It is that time of year.  Yes, it is Christmas movie time.  Red One was released in theaters on November 15 in the United States and is now available for free to Stream on Amazon Prime.

Plot Points:
Santa Claus is a super powerful force of nature. Santa is kidnapped and taken for his abilities.  Calvin Drift, The E.L.F. (The Rock) and bodyguard for Santa, teams up with Jack O’Malley (Chris Evans), the world’s best tracker and the one who unknowingly helped find Santa so he could be kidnapped.  The two of them go on a mission to bring Santa home before he needs to leave for his Christmas Eve trek.

What I liked:
I love how they wrote Santa.  I have never seen Santa as a powerhouse like this. J.K. Simmons is incredible and he is JACKED as St. Nick.

The Chemistry between Calvin and Jack was really good.  They played off of each other.  Chris Evan’s character was different than anything I have seen him in a long time.

The plot kept me guessing for a bit.  It is unusual in most movies that I don’t have the whole thing figured out in the first 15 minutes.  It wasn’t keeping me guessing all the time but I was surprised by some of it.

The Krampus scenes were awesome.  I enjoyed this fun take on Krampus.

It was a pure fun action Christmas movie.  It didn’t try to be more than it was.  Instead, Red One embraced what it was and did it well.

What I Disliked:
It took a while to get to the main part of the movie.  It took a lot of time to introduce some of the characters.  It wasn’t wasn’t bad but if I am looking for something to nitpick, that is it.

Review:
Red One
is a fun Holiday action ride. It has two of the biggest stars out there in this movie. Definitely a movie to check out.
