The tech industry discovered that working at home wasn’t only possible but can be be performed successfully for their company during the lockdowns with COVID 19. Some businesses took this as only a temporary solution and expected everything to go back to the way it was before COVID. Other companies saw it as an opportunity to show their trust for their employees while lowering their overhead.
Activision Blizzard is the latest of tech companies to mandate their employees head back into the office. They announced all Activision employees are expected in the office by April 10th and Blizzard employees back by July 10th. This announcement started conversations across the game development industry on the work at home policies.
Overall, the employees of Activision Blizzard don’t seem pleased by this news. There are tweets flying around from them. One remote employee, who was hired as remote and won’t be required to come into the office, stated “there’s no logic to mandating being in the same physical location.”
The majority of employees at ABK have no interest in returning to office either full or part time. This isn’t to say that nobody sees the value in an office environment, but we’ve overall decided the risks do not outweight those benefits. 2/14

These discussions are happening all over the United States. Some companies are very focused on getting their employees back into their offices. Other companies are looking at the benefits of employees working at home. These discussions will continue. Many employees that have been remote and being called back into the office are looking at other options that will let them work at home.
