Amazon scored the new Middle Earth television series for $250 Million. They beat out Netflix for this series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon is planning on bringing the world of Middle Earth to life outside of the movies. This series will take place between the events of the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. They are planning on the series going five seasons. The cost of this series will be huge and it is estimated to cost over a Billion dollars.
This bold move is an attempt for the Amazon streaming service to compete with Netflix and the upcoming Disney Streaming service. Tolkien’s series has generated 6 successful movies which have grossed over 5 Billion dollars.
Amazon has set themselves up with a big name to bring viewers over to Amazon.
