According to the Wall Street Journal, AT&T has made a deal to purchase Time Warner for $85.4 Billion. AT&T will pay $107.50 a share in half-cash, half-stock deal. This deal will create a mega entertainment empire.
AT&T Chief Executive Randall Stephenson remain in charge of AT&T and the new addition with the company.Time Warner Chief Executive Jeff Bewkes will remain for an interim period following the close of the deal.
Because of the nature of this purchase and merger, the U.S. government will intensely scrutinize it. This deal isn’t expected to be complete until the end of 2017.
DC Comic is currently owned by Warner Bros which is a subsidiary of Time Warner. With this deal, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and all of the DC Characters will be owned by AT&T. Will we see Superman and Wonder Woman advertising mobile phones in the near future? It is definitely a possibility. How will this affect the day to day process of DC comics and the entertainment branch with movies and television? We don’t know but it will be interesting.
