At age 32, Becky Cloonan is already a well known artist in the comic book world. Her art on Dark Horse’s Conan the Barbarian is awesome. She has drawn the DC’s Swamp Thing. She is the artist on the indie project comic, The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.
Becky has broken a glass ceiling that no other female has before in the comic world. She drew Batman for DC Comics. Batman is one of the most popular DC character. This is a huge deal for the 32 year old.
Cloonan was a fan of comics from a young age. Her father read Silver Surfer and Fantastic Four to her while she was in Elementary school.
Cloonan draws comics the old fashion way . She uses paper and pencil for her drawings. She hasn’t converted to digital. She has stacks of paper for each comic she draws. It gives her a sense of accomplishment when she is finished.
“It feels good to be the first,” she says, “but I didn’t think about it when I was drawing. I was just excited: I’m drawing Batman!” (oprah.com)
