After yesterday big announcement from Disney/Marvel about Joss Whedon’s return for Avengers 2, there is a strong rumor for the Justice League movie. D.C. Comics major super team, the Justice League, is in planning stages for a future movie. The internet rumor, which is rampant, has Ben Affleck as the director of the movie adaptation of the Justice League.
I like Ben Affleck and have enjoyed numerous of his movies. He is a solid actor. But I am not convinced that he will be a great director of an action/superhero team movie. He is known for acting and writing but not for directing action movies.
There is also the problem of Ben’s previous attempt at a superhero role. Most of us remember his portrayal of Daredevil and regret paying to view it in the theater. At a time when most of Marvel Comicbook movies were getting sequels, Affleck’s Daredevil went nowhere.
Is anyone really excited about the possibility of Ben Affleck to direct the Justice League? Marvel fans were psyched about the announcement for Joss Whedon’s return and with good reason since his Avengers movie is one of the top grossing movies of all times. When was the last time Affleck was at all associated with a top grossing movie? Some of the D.C. fans seem honestly excited but I am not sure if they hyped over Ben directing or just the possibility that they might finally get a Justice League movie.
I will give my suggestion from yesterday’s post again. Warner Bros/D.C., you guys, should look at J.J. Abrams and offer him a big contract. If anyone could compete with a geek’s affection for Whedon, it would be our adoration for J.J.
