According to Deadline, Marvel Studios is in negotiations with Benedict Cumberbatch to be Doctor Strange for the 2016 Doctor Strange movie. Cumberbatch is interested in the adding Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange, to his list of geek centric roles. Marvel is very interested in adding the popular actor to a character that is less known by the public.
Doctor Stephen Strange became a famous neurosurgeon before he was 30 years old. A car accident took away the fine motor skills in his hand and ended his career as a Surgeon. He pursued the mystical arts and became a master. Eventually he became the Sorcerer Supreme, the protector of good in our realm.
Cumberbatch is best known for his role Sherlock Holmes on BBC’s Sherlock. He portrayed Khan Noonien Singh in Star Trek Into Darkness. He is receiving Oscar Buzz for his role in The Imitation Game. Cumberbatch is everywhere.
The news of Cumberbatch hit the internet earlier today. This was met with some mixed reactions. Many fans of Sherlock and Cumberbatch were celebrating the news. But I also saw several negative reactions to this announcements. Some people were complaining that Cumberbatch’s acting is rather stiff. One person even stated that he is the British Keanu Reeves.
Personally, I really liked the news. I think Cumberbatch is a fine actor but that is my opinion. Cumberbatch will bring in some of his fans that might not have seen this movie and that is a smart movie from Marvel.
