This week is the “big” Star Tek Convention STLV(Star Trek Las Vegas). It is attended by fans, fan film actors and of course Star Trek cast alumni. Usually some type of news about the future of the franchise is announced, but today there was what can only be described as a “bombshell”. Sir Patrick Steward who played Captain Jean Luc Picard on Star Trek The Next Generation for 7 seasons and last donned the uniform in 2002’s movie Star Trek Nemesis, pretty much shocked EVERYONE in attendance with his announcement that he has signed on to ONCE AGAIN reprise the role….not in a movie…or a special…..but in a new scripted weekly series on CBS All Access.
When CBS hired Star trek Discovery Co-Creator Alex Kurtzman, to an overall deal to expand the Trek universe on TV, fans of the iconic series have waited to hear, what would join Discovery on the CBS streaming channel. This will not be a reboot, or even a look back at a younger Picard, but will be a show that focuses on the “next chapter” in the life of the famed character. Stewart released the following statement on his twitter feed…
It is an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions within him. Read my full statement in the photo. #StarTrek @cbsallaccess Photo: @shervinfoto pic.twitter.com/8Ynuj3RBNm
