Earlier today, Bleeding Cool broke news that as of March, the DC Comic character of Black Adam will be changing his name to Shazadam. This would coincide with Black Adam’s membership in the Justice League with the new League roster. There will be a focus on this character going from a villain to a true anti-hero character.
Captain Marvel (DC) had a name change to SHAZAM! back in 2011. It is not unprecedented for characters to change their names and costumes especially after a significant change. This made sense that Black Adam could change his name with the change in his character’s focus.
This name change had many fans up in arms. I understand. I still refuse to call Captain Marvel “Shazam!” (it is the wizard’s name). The name Shazadam seems confusing and stupid. This story was report all over geekdom making a lot of waves.
IGN came out with an article from Jesse Schedeen. Schedeen stated that rumor about Black Adam’s name change is a false rumor. According to his sources, Black Adam’s name will not change at least in 2021. It was unconfirmed where these rumors began.
The IGN article went on to confirm Black Adam’s personality will evolve in 2021 as a part of the new lineup of Brian M Bendis new Justice League. There are questions on how Bendis will utilize Black Adam in his Justice League
Bendis heared about the rumor and turned to twitter. Below is what he tweeted about this rumor.
rumors are stupid.
