I have been seeing this specific rumor for several days around the internet. The rumor has the twin brother and sister duo of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the movie Avengers 2. Pietro and Wanda Maximoff are the offspring of X-Men antagonist, Magneto. These mutants left the employment of their twisted father and became Avengers.
These rumors have been hot and heavy since Joss Whedon made comments at the Iron Man 3 Premiere. He excitingly talked about about having a brother and sister heroes in Avengers 2. There is only one brother and sister duo that have served as Avengers and it is Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.
“When you’re dealing with the story, when you’ve got the characters that you love, when you’ve got the new characters sliding in next to them – it’s very exciting. Then I don’t feel pressure, then I feel like I’m reading my favorite comic,” Whedon began tellingYahoo!News. “I’ve got these two characters, two of my favorite characters from the comic book, a brother-sister act, they’re in the movie. That’s exciting! You lock certain things in, there’s a fluidity.” (Newsarama)
But Fox owns the rights to the X-Men franchise and associated characters. How can Disney use these mutants in their movie franchise? Wanda and Pietro are unique characters. They have been in the X-Men comics but not the movies. They became Avengers in issue #16 in 1965. They have been Avengers for almost 4 decades. They were only X-Men villains for a few issues of the X-Men. Both franchises appear to have rights to the these characters. I am not sure if the Avengers use them if Fox could use them in a future X-Men movie.
I think the addition of Wanda and Pietro could be fantastic. Pietro’s temper and Wanda’s weird and quirky personality would be a fun addition to the movie. Hopefully the Scarlet Witch will not utter the words, “No More Avengers movies!”
