In the 1980s, one of my favorite comic books was The New Teen Titans. This DC book was fantastic. It was written by great Marv Wolfman and drawn by the fantastic comic artist George Pérez. It rivaled the X-Men in popularity.
The Teen Titans were originally the sidekicks of Various Justice League members including Robin (aka Nightwing- Batman’s sidekick), Speedy (Green Arrow’s), Kid Flash (Flash’s), Wonder Girl (Wonder Woman’s) and Aqualad (Aquaman’s). In the 80s they added other great members such as Starfire, Cyborg, Raven, and Changeling (aka Beast Boy). Over the years the Titans have added and removed several members. But these characters from the 1980s are the Iconic members of the Titans.
According to the Wall Street Journal, DC and Warner Bros are working on bringing the (Teeen) Titans to the screen. They are in talks with the TNT network to carry this series.
The article is reporting a cast Nightwing, Starfire, Raven, and Cyborg. I love all of these members. But it would not be the same if they don’t include Wonder Girl and Kid Flash. They were both staples of the 80s group. Wonder Girl is my favorite of the characters.
How will this work as a live action series? Will they acknowledge the existence of the older heroes like Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman and even Superman? If not, how do you explain Nightwing and hopefully Wonder Girl and Kid Flash?
Who knows if this series will really get made and picked up. Comicbook shows are fairly popular right now but can you make a series about late teens and early 20 year old heroes on television? We will see. I hope DC does something KOOL with the great characters of the Titans.
