This past weekend from March 24-26 was Galaxycon in Richmond Virginia. This is the largest convention that Jon and I have attended on the East Coast so far. Spanning all three days, the schedule was hectic, but enjoyable. While Jon walked around the main exhibit hall, I attended multiple panels.
On day one, I attended the Barry Bostwick Q and A. Barry not only talked about The Rocky Horror Picture Show, he also spoke on the 80’s underground classic Megaforce and different tv appearances he’s made in his career. Joking light-heartedly on the subject of Rocky Horror he told us fans “I’m the only person who can sell his underwear and not be creepy about it.” It was a great event held by Galaxycon which left everyone in stitches.
The second panel I attended on day two of the con was Marty Grabstein’s Q and A, after I took a few photos at David Tennant’s panel. I was also able to get an interview with Marty Grabstein about his voice acting with Courage the Cowardly Dog. This interview can be found on Geekykool’s Facebook page and Youtube channel!
After going to Marty Grabstein’s panel I took a quick break at Galaxycon’s video game room. They had multiple arcade games and the PS5 available for everyone to play. The graphics for the new Street Fighter game is amazing, but I couldn’t stay there all day because I had more panels to attend. Cosplaying and Mental Health led by professional cosplayer and licensed therapist Silver Hart was very informative about the pros and cons of cosplaying affect on mental health. While, the Batman and mental heath panel held by Victims and Villains of Richmond Virginia was very informative on mental illness representation (Both good and bad) in the comic book and pop culture scene.
I have to say, the third and final day of Galaxycon has to be my favorite. Haunted Virginia hosted by author and paranormal expert/historian Michelle L. Hamilton was a lot of fun. Listening to her talk some of her experiences and, the history of Virginia’s more ghostly residents is a lot of fun. She is very informative as a presenter and is not one to miss.
Pineapple Shaped Lamps showing of A Goofy Movie with a live shadow cast had everyone rolling with laughter. It was a fantastic show for all ages, that both parents with younger kids, and those of us 90’s kids still young at heart can enjoy. Overall Galaxycon holds a great mix of events and panels for everyone and I can’t wait to see what they bring next year!
