Blizzard is the making of the most popular MMO (Massively multiplayer online) game, World of Warcraft. They have been talking about a project to the next big thing for seven year. It was called Titan and it would have been a “Titan” sized project.
According to Polygon, Blizzard co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime has stated that this project, which was never officially announced, is now dead. It wasn’t the projected or the game they hoped it would be. After some time of evaluation and re-evaluation, they found that they couldn’t make this game into the game they needed it to be.
“We didn’t find the fun,” Morhaime continued. “We didn’t find the passion. We talked about how we put it through a reevaluation period, and actually, what we reevaluated is whether that’s the game we really wanted to be making. The answer is no.” (Polygon)
Blizzard is more concerned with the quality of play and their reputation as a gaming software company than putting out a product. There is no doubt that Titan would have had good sales, at least at first. People know and trust Blizzard. They could have taken advantage of it as other companies have done. But this wasn’t the path for Blizzard.
I salute them for standing on their principles and not taking the easy cash grab. It is the road less traveled nowadays.
