The iconic Nintendo Entertainment system turns a whopping 30 years old today. It is the console that started the era of gaming that we know today. While I was one of the unlucky kids that had to rely on friends to get my gaming fix, I can still remember the excitement of Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt. I always wanted my own system but had to wait till I was married before getting it. The hubby and I played the original Mario Brothers for hours that first week! The new gaming systems are pretty cool but I still will always love the NES.
Things that take me back:
- Hearing the Mario Brothers theme on someones ring tone and resisting the urge to sing along.
- Blowing in the cartridge to get it to work
- That dang dog that kept popping up when you missed the ducks (still gunning for you)
- Never getting to the final level
- That gut drop feeling when you missed a jump
I still have not saved Princess Peach but maybe I will before old age and bifocals take me down! Stay tuned for some geeky Mario themed crafts to celebrate later on this week.
