Yesterday, December 28th, was Stan Lee’s 95th Birthday. Happy Birthday Stan! Stan was born Stanley Martin Lieber. He was raised in New York City by his Romanian Jewish immigrant parents.
Most people at least recognize Stan Lee. He is the guy that makes all of the appearances in the Marvel movies. He usually has a comical line or two. Yes, that is Stan Lee.
Stan the Man is best known for being co-creator on some of our favorite comic book heroes. He worked with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko to co-created Spider-Man, the Hulk, Doctor Strange, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Daredevil, Thor, Black Panther, the X-Men, and many others. These characters shared a complex shared Universe. Stan created more complex characters than other superheroes with real world issues. Stan is credited for creating the comic writing style called the Marvel way which let the artist have more control.
Lee got his start in comics in 1939 as an assistant in at the new Timely Comics division of publisher Martin Goodman’s company. He would go on to be with the company as they became Marvel Comics in the early 60s. Stan served various roles for Marvel Comics such as editor-in-chief, publisher, and chairman and now is the chairman emeritus (honorary figure head) and a member of the editorial board.
I am a huge fan of Stan Lee. I have read Marvel comics since I was a kid in the 1970s. I remember reading “Stan’s Soapbox” editorial religiously in the 80s. Stan Lee helped form my childhood and youth.
We at Geeky KOOL wish Stan “The Man” Lee a wonderful belated 95th birthday.
