“Heroes, Villains, and Me” is a weekly article on Geeky KOOL about the world of comic books and my reaction to it. “Heroes, Villains, and Me” is not a comic book review article. I will write about current events, speculation and rumors, or my own wacky thoughts about the world of comic books.
Do any of you remember the comic book digests? We used to get these when I was a kid. I remember reading reprints of a variety of stories. The digest were shorter and narrower. The covers are think and the binding is strong. These were a favorite of my father.
I remember reading a fun DC story where the Superheroes had to play a baseball game against the villains. It was a fun and silly story but it always stuck with me. The heroes won out in the end.
I recently discovered that comic book digests are back or maybe still around. I picked up a couple of digests for my 3 year old son to examine. I picked up Volume One of Marvel Adventures Spider-Man and Volume One of Marvel Adventures Avengers.
Marvel Adventures are all age stories. Many of the stories are re-telling of classic tales. The stories are written on a level I can enjoy them while they entertain my three year old.
These digests are a lot of fun. They are much more durable than a regular comic book. If you have a chance, check out a comic book digest from your local comic store.
