“Heroes, Villains, and Me” is a periodic article on Geeky KOOL by Larry Litle about the world of comic books and my reaction to it. “Heroes, Villains, and Me” is not a comic book review article. I will write about current events, speculation and rumors, or my own wacky thoughts about the world of comic books.
This upcoming Friday will start the three day extravaganza of C2E2 in Chicago. The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) is a large and fun convention held in downtown Chicago. This convention appears to still be more about the comics and comic fandom than the entertainment piece. It is all about the geek Fandom in general. There are tons of comic book writers, artists, and celebrities to help us celebrate being a geek.
This year, I will be attending C2E2 as a member of the press for Geeky KOOL. Two years ago was my first year attending C2E2 and I did represent Geeky KOOL. I am so very excited to cover this awesome event again. You can expect numerous posts over the next two weeks about my experience.
Bright and early on Thursday morning, my buddy Mike and I will jump in a car and start our 8 hour trek to the Windy City. We hope to make it to our hotel before Rush Hour traffic gets bad. Thursday night, we plan to have true Chicago Style pizza at Giordanos.
I am super excited about C2E2 and this upcoming adventure. This is our (Geeky KOOL’s) first convention to cover this year. I am looking forward to interviewing numerous people. I hope to bring a window of what is going on in Geekdom to our readers.
I am also looking forward to this convention as a fan. I grew up loving comic books. They helped me learn to read. They were so very precious to me. I remember seeing an add for SDCC as a kid and it enraptured my imagination.
I can’t wait to meet some of my favorite comic book creators. I am hoping to meet Mr Stan Lee, whom I have looked up to all of my life. I can’t wait to have Mark Waid sign a #1 Daredevil. I want Dan Slott to sign my #1 issue of Superior Spider-Man and laugh about how he really duped us with Otto.
Most of all, I can’t wait to be a part of the greater Geek community. There is just something special about being around the numerous other people that share similar interests. I know part of this has to do with growing up in a very small town in the 70s and 80s. I only had a few friends that were into comics, Star Wars, BSG, Star Trek, the Hobbit, D & D and other role playing games, and most things geeky. We were a limited group and we were definitely not the in crowd. But at conventions like C2E2, most everyone around me loves something that I love. It is pure Euphoria. I know I am with “My People”.
There will be a ton more on C2E2 yet to come. I have a hard time containing my giddiness about it. I can’t wait to experience it and share my experiences, thoughts, and feeling about this fantastic convention and all of the KOOL Geeky people I meet.
