“Heroes, Villains, and Me” is a periodic article on Geeky KOOL by Larry Litle about the world of comic books and my reaction to it. “Heroes, Villains, and Me” is not a comic book review article. I will write about current events, speculation and rumors, or my own wacky thoughts about the world of comic books and related stuff.
I love comics. I have since I was a kid. They have a special place in my heart. I love the art form of comic books with the story and art joining together to be greater than the individual pieces.
When I was a kid, comics were my escape. Growing up in the middle of the country in the 70s and the 80s, there wasn’t a lot for a me to do. Reading comics helped me make it through the long hot summers and the cold winters isolation of the farmlands of Missouri.
With my Dyslexia, I struggled reading regular books for my age group. Comics books had an ability to suck me in. The art helped me understand the words. It made me want to read. They helped me with develop my reading and comprehension.
I have always been fascinated with the action and heroic of comics. The stories or imperfect characters overcoming their weaknesses to be a hero. Characters like Spider-Man and Captain America have always grabbed my heart and imagination.
I am not a fan of all comic books. There are some stories that are poorly developed and written. Some of the art isn’t my style or interest. There are comics I am just not interested in reading. Saying all of that, I still love comics.
