“Heroes, Villains, and Me” is a periodic article on Geeky KOOL by Larry Litle about the world of comic books and my reaction to it. “Heroes, Villains, and Me” is not a comic book review article. I will write about current events, speculation and rumors, or my own wacky thoughts about the world of comic books and related stuff.
Planet Comicon Kansas City is this upcoming weekend. This means I have been in full scramble mode for the last week to get ready for this awesome 3 day event. It is a mix of pleasure and frustration as I get prepared for Planet Comicon Kansas City.
As a journalist and a fan, there is plenty of things to do for a convention away from home.
I am not a list person. In fact, I really hate lists. Little notes here and there are okay but full on lists feel like a waste of my already distracted mind and time.
It is important to me to examine my wardrobe and prepare what I am going to wear. I had to set aside the geek shirts to wear at the Con so I don’t wear them the week leading up to it. Thinking through what all I need to pack in my bag for this 3 day stay? What snacks do I need to pack.
There is the examining of the schedule to determine what panels I want to attend. I usually only make 50% or less of the panels that I select because I am busy on the floor or in Artist Alley. What ones do I have to make? What panels would be a good break on Saturday and on Sunday?
I love meeting comic book creators. My favorite writers and artists are important to me. I spend hours looking through the list of creators and then finding comics for them to sign. I have an extra challenge with this. My small home doesn’t hold most of my comic collect. Most of my collection, especially my classic comics, are in Bryan’s basement. Tonight, I made a trek way out to Bryan’s home. I found some of the comics I was looking for. My biggest take away were Chris Claremont’s New Mutants #1 and The Uncanny X-Men #139 (my first X-Men comic as a kid).
As a journalist for Geeky KOOL, there is a ton to do. As the Chief Creative Officer, I had to organize what writers will be attending with me. Bryan Crockett and our newest writer, Keith Moncrief, will cover this awesome event with me. I contacted Planet Comicon Kansas City about press passes and have received them. We requested interviews with certain guests. We organized what we will do.
Business cards are always important to hand out. I had to order cards for Bryan. Keith came on too late for cards but will have them for next time. I realized yesterday that I have less business cards than I expect but I should have plenty to get me through.
There has been a ton to do but I am just about ready to relax for a few minutes before bed. We head out tomorrow night for Kansas City. We begin our covering on Friday Morning. Look for articles and maybe some audio and visual for Geeky KOOL coverage.
