Occasionally at Geeky KOOL, we like to highlight a KOOL project in need of support through Crowd Funding. Here is a really interesting book publishing project. Big Bang Press has searched the great halls of Fan Fiction for writers. They have three writers that are known for their fan fiction but are writing original novels.
What is Fan Fiction? It is stories about existing characters from geeky shows and movies. I first became familiar with fan fiction when X-Files was at its best. The fan fiction I read was an interesting story that filled in some gaps of existing stories but written by the fans and not the writers of the show. As I paid more and more attention, I could tell that the show writers were starting to pay attention to the fan fiction and sometimes include concepts from the fan fiction but not always.
I love this idea of bringing in good faction fiction writers and giving them an original project. The fan fiction community has been pumping out tons of great stories for years. Why search for quality prospective writers when you know the work of these writers from the web.
