According to The Hollywood Reporter, FOX has ordered a pilot created for a Television adaption of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. This comic mini series by Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill has previously been adapted into a Major Motion Picture The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen starring Sean Connery. Many fans of the comics had a great disdain for this movie version.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is Victorian era superhero team. The characters are pulled from other well known literary stories. Mina Murray (Harker) was bitten by Dracula and maintains some vampire abilities after Dracula is killed. Englishman Allan Quatermain is an adventurer and marksman often in the wilderness in Africa. Hawley Griffin is the invisible man. We all know Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Captain Nemo is the Captain of the famous submarine The Nautilus. There are other literary characters that should up through out the various mini series.
Can a television version of this KOOL Victorian (and often Steampunk) Hero group translate better than the movie? We can hope. If a good television adaption can be created, it could bring in fans and those new to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
