According to Time.com, there will be a new person in the Iron Man armor. At the end of Civil War II, Tony will give up being Iron Man, at least for a while.
This isn’t the first time the armor is worn by someone other than Tony Stark. James “Rhodey” Rhodes was Iron Man for part of the 80s while Tony finally sobered up. Rhodes later took on the mantel of War Machine. Norman Osborn became the “Iron Patriot” with Iron Man armor during the Dark Reign. Both Spider-Man and Mary Jane wore the Iron Spider armor.
Tony will hand over the keys to the armor to genius 15 year old Riri Williams. Riri is a 15 year old African American young lady. She is enrolled in MIT. She created her own version of the armor. She makes some adjustments to the armor that Tony hasn’t even considered.
Some people are upset that an African American female is taking over Iron Man. Some people get so focused on diversity or what they see as forced diversity. Iron Man was a black man back in the 80s so why not a black young lady in 2016?
I was more upset the new article kept calling Riri a “woman”. A 15 year old isn’t an adult yet. But maybe that is just my bias and issue since I am no longer a teenager.
