The rumors have been swirling about Marvel canceling their hit cartoon, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. These rumors stated that Disney/Marvel wanted more control over an Avengers cartoon series and it would be created and produced in the Disney studios. Could Disney and Marvel cancel a series that has a good following and a series with a 8.6 IMDB ranking just for more control? They answered this questions today with firm YES with their print only announcement that Avengers: EMH would not be renewed for a third season. According to Marvel TV News, Marvel did announce a new Avengers cartoon series, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble to replace Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. They included a promo picture of the new series.
Below is the media release.
“The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” won’t be renewed for the 3rd Season. Marvel Animation will present their newly developed series “Marvel’s Avengers Assemble” in 2013.
It is difficult for this fan to understand what Marvel is doing. Marvel and their big brother Disney have a great series with good writing. This short lived show has told some of the classic Avengers stories with a new twist. It is one of the best superhero cartoons I have ever watched. Does Marvel shoot themselves in the foot if their fans do not embrace the new series? Fans have a right to be critical of this decision. They made a similar choice when they canceled the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series for the inferior Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.
After stating my skepticism about this change, I do like cast of characters for Marvel’s Avengers Assemble. The addition of The Falcon and Black Widow does ignite my geeky excitement. I love the character of The Falcon and he is underutilized in the Marvel 616 universe. Hopefully his inclusion will lead to The Falcon becoming more prominent in the comics.
The Black Window makes sense since was one of the stars of the Avengers movie. My daughter saw this picture and was estatic about Natasaha in this upcoming series. I think the addition of Black Widow will help bring in some female viewers. It is too bad they are sacrificing the Wasp to bring the Black Widow. It has potential but I would prefer to have added Black Widow and The Falcon to the regular cast on Avengers: EMH but no one asked me.
