One of my childhood cartoons seems to be finding its way to the big screen once again. He-Man and Skeletor will return as Production Weekly reports that the Master of the Universe movie will begin production in July in Prague. I loved He-Man and his world growing up in the 1980s. Although I must confess that Orko was always my favorite.
Sony has been working on bringing Masters of the Universe back to the big screen since acquiring the film rights in 2009. The project has gone through several rewrites and directors in the last decade. With a production date now set, it seems the Sony may have finally committed to moving forward.
If for some reason you are unaware of the premise of He-Man, let me tell you a little about it. He-Man is the principal superhero featured in a series of comic books and an animated television series from the 1980s. He made his first appearance with a line of toys in 1982. DC Comics launched a tie-in comic book series that same year. Then a Saturday morning cartoon series in 1983. (Remember the days before Cartoon Network and Disney where children all over the USA would flock to their television sets every Saturday morning to watch their favorite cartoons. I do. Lol)
He-Man was a superhero with superhuman strength. Like most superheroes he had an alter ego, Prince Adam. He-Man and his friends attempt to defend the realm of Eternia and the secrets of Castle Grayskull from his arch nemesis Skeletor. Oh the nostalgia. He-Man and his battle cry “I have the power!” were such a part of my childhood.
This will not be the first time that He-Man has been turned into a live action film. Masters of the Universe became a live-action feature starring Dolph Lundgren in the 1987 movie from Cannon Films.
The franchise has gone through several reboots in comics, toys and even was part of a cross over with other DC comics heroes.
I hope that this live action film will do justice to one of my childhood favorites. And to be honest I look forward to seeing Skeletor!
So tell me GeekyKOOL readers are you excited about this? Let me know in the comments.
And as always thanks for reading this Geekygirlness.
