CBS has given the green light to a Supergirl pilot for a possible superhero television series. They have been looking for the young lady to take on the mantle of the “S”. According to Deadline, CBS has cast Melissa Benoist as Supergirl.
Benoist is best known for her role on Fox’s hit singing teenage drama, Glee. She has been in other movies and on other television series. She brings a girl next door look to the Supergirl role. This is very fitting for her secret identity.
Supergirl is Superman’s younger cousin. Like her older cousin, she also escaped the destruction of the planet Krypton. She has all of the powers and ability of Superman.
In this series Supergirl will be in her early 20s. She will need to learn to control and use her abilities to help others. She goes from hiding her abilities to embracing the heritage of Superman.
I am very excited to see what CBS will do with her characters. There have been many versions of her character over the years. How will they develop her personality and make her distinct from Superman will be the key to this series.
