Henry Cavill had a meeting with new DCEU heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, and announced to his fans that he will NOT be returning to the role as Superman. Back in October, Cavill announced that he was leaving his staring role in the TV Series “The Witcher” to return to the role of Superman. Apparently with the change in Studio bosses at DC, that is no longer the plan.

Gunn Also released a statement saying “Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year,” he said.
“Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry, and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future,”
So in the space of 2 months, fans had to deal with the loss of Cavill as the lead in an amazing TV show, because he was going back to a role other fans wanted to see him in, only to have that rug pulled out from under his feet as well.
