We were hoping for a little break from this pandemic with COVID but things are bad. The death rate in the United States continues to climb to new one day totals. We are far from out of the woods here in late January.
Because of this, no one is surprised by the movie delays that seems to be announced daily. There was such hope 6 months ago that we would be almost back to normal now but we aren’t and movies are stuck in limbo.
Warner Bros announced by in December that they would show all of their new movies on HBO Max on the same day they will be released in theaters. Studios like Disney have refused to throw everything on their streaming service. Most studios don’t have a streaming service to just release them onto. Because of this, we are seeing more and more announcements of movies being pushed back once again.
Highly anticipated movies are being moved to give audiences the best chance to see them in the theater. This is devastating local movie theaters. It is also playing havoc with things like product placement in these movies. Studios have borrowed money to make these films and are paying interested on movies that are just sitting on a shelf.
Here are a few movies that we know have been delayed further. James Bond in No Time To Die has been pushed to October 8, 2021. The action sci fi film Uncharted has been moved all the way to February 2022. Ghostbusters: Afterlife has been busted to November 11, 2020. A Quiet Place 2 has snuck back to September 17, 2020. The King’s Man have royally moved to August 20, 2021. Even Godzilla Vs Kong which will be released on HBO Max and theaters is being moved to March 26 from May 21, 2021.
