“The Green Knight” an epic, Arthurian tale, ripe with Old English poetic beauty. It is not a dragon-infused battle film nor is it a wizard-driven D&D dungeon crawl. It is something else entirely and it is brilliant.
While it is Arthurian, this story is not about Arthur, the grail, or of swords and stones. It is Gawain, nephew to Arthur, and a not-yet knight who becomes involved in a fantastic Christmas game of honor. This game takes him on a quest for his own soul and self-discovery.
Green Knight is an Old English myth telling a yarn as old as humanity. It is Beowulf. It is the heroic myth of the English people told in cinematic Iambic pentameter. Green Knight is cinematic high art.
