8-BIT CHRISTMAS is a fun-loving, 80s and 90s nostalgic romp into the Christmas season for those of us who lived through that time. Offering major nods to the greatest Christmas movie of all time, A CHRISTMAS STORY, this throwback replaces the Red Rider BB gun with an 8-bit Nintendo.In today’s time, Neil Patrick Harris narrates the story to his daughter (and us) as he recounts his childhood desire for a Nintendo despite the nefarious video game device being banned by the pearl-clutching community in order to save the children. The story flips back and forth between times, but spends most of the story when he was a kid and his many attempts to obtain the 8-bit console.
I enjoyed it a lot and connected to its throwback to my own childhood. I remember the brain rot bans of video games, sinful rock and rap music, and the church forbidding the clearly satanic D&D. Oh and backmasking! For us Gen Xers, 8-BIT offers a look back at our childhood all while creating a great Chrimstas story for everyone.
