My Buddy, Mr J. Christopher Wilson is reviewing some movies and series. He has agreed for us to post his reviews here.
THE WRETCHED is fun little intro into the horror genre. It’s not a mind bending genre changer and not particularly unique, but what THE WRETCHED does offer is a nice little foray into the world of horror without freaking the kid or teen out.
A forest spirit with possession-like behavior and memory twisting powers finds itself a home in a small, ocean-front community. The only one who figures it out is a teen boy who has had his own problems and is—surprise—not believed. To that he compounds his issues by getting caught breaking into his neighbors home claiming an otherworldly being has taken them over and stolen their child.
It’s nuts and who in their right mind would believe him? No one, of course, except his weird teen friend who really goes along but is skeptical.
There is a big boss fight and dumb adults as is often the case in horror films with teen protagonists. But it functions well as a first time horror film teens who are barely ready. Just scary enough for a first timer but not enough to give anyone nightmares.
