On Monday, NBCUniversal announced making some of their movies available on demand the same day they will be released in theaters. They are doing this as method get their movies out for audiences during this time of the coronavirus pandemic. NBCUniversal will determine what movies are moved to this availability.
Many movie theaters are closing their doors with the Covid 19 recommendations and laws. New York and Los Angeles have mandated theaters close their doors. Other cities are limiting capacity to 50 people or less. The White House is now recommending no more than 10 people to a gathering.
Trolls World Tour will be one of these movies. They have also determined action movies The Hunt and The Invisible Man will release be available with On Demand. The highly anticipated drama, Emma, will also release On Demand.
Other studios are delaying releases out of fear of losing money or not making the millions or billions expected. Disney has delayed the release both their live action Mulan and Marvel’s Black Widow. Paramount is moving A Quiet Place Part II for a later time. MGM has moved No Time to Die (James Bond) to November.
I won’t be surprised if more studios don’t follow NBCUniversal’s plan and release some of their movies to On Demand
