Sam Esmail, creator of Mr Robot, is making a new Battlestar Galactica series for NBC’s Streaming Service, The Peacock. The fan reaction was almost the same as everyone’s reaction to the bad idea of remaking The Princess Bride. Why mess with either the original or the Ron D Moore series from SyFy? Both are awesome the way they are. Does another remake really have to happen?
The good news for fans is that this is not a remake. According to Sam Esmail’s tweet on September 17th, he is not remaking the series at all. This is a series to explore the mythology of BSG. It appears to be set in Moore’s universe and not the original series. Below is the tweet.
BSG fans, this will NOT be a remake of the amazing series @RonDMoore launched because… why mess with perfection? Instead, we’ll explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar. So say we all!

It will be interesting to see how they take this series and explore. They did try this with the short lived Caprica prequel series on SyFy. It is difficult to continue an universe like this. You have to find the magic of the series you are trying tap into. Very few come close to the awesomeness of the original.
