Originally expected to be released on April 13, 2018, The New Mutants movie has been delayed almost a year until February 22nd, 2019. No word on if there are going to be reshoot’s or what the reason behind the delay is. But this is a troubling development for “the first mutant horror” movie. While using the “demon bear”saga is a great story arc to highlight Mirage’s powers, and her lack of control of them, a truly DARK mutant movie may be to hard to pull off.
The New Mutants were not a dark group of kids in the comics, and while the “demon bear” saga had some horror elements, it was more a “struggle of control” as opposed to a straight horror saga.
If you look at the picture above the “demon tail” is played by Magik holding what is most likely Kitty Pryde’s dragon “Lockheed”. One has to wonder, does Lockheed make an appearance, or is it simply a tease, to bring him into the talked about upcoming Kitty Pryde “shadowcat” movie?
With so many superhero movies coming to the screen over the next 2 or 3 years, will this delay doom The New Mutants?
