Saturday, I went on an adventure with Geeky KOOL Ace Reporter, AJ. We were invited to Harrison, Arkansas for a real treat. On this day in Harrison Arkansas, a Star Trek Fan Film was being filmed. AJ and I went down to hang out o the set for the filming of movie Cosmic Stream in the Avalon Universe. See the Coming Soon Trailer Below.
For those unfamiliar, Star Trek fans (like many other fandoms) have been creating their own fan films for decades. There are specific rules that CBS and Paramount have agreed to with fan films so these films won’t get sued. According Joshua Irwin, the writer and director of the film, these rules gives guidance and boundaries which are beneficial to smaller and medium sized productions. See the rules here.
The Avalon Universe is an alternate Universe in the many universes of Star Trek. It pulls from the original universe, the Kelvin Universe, the Discovery Universe, and even aspects from the Mirror Universe. It has its on continuity but is similar to what we love and know with out favorite Star Trek Series. Cosmic Stream is the 9th film set in The Avalon Universe according to Irwin.
What was the experience like for us? For me, it was extremely incredible. As Star Trek fans (AJ being even a bigger one than me), this was a dream. The sets were amazing, as you can see in some of the shots. The cast and crew were welcoming to us. The fanboy in me gush with excitement and awe as I watched the production.
AJ and I wanted to get some interview time but the actors and director and crew were busy filming. But to announce it here first, this Tuesday at 7:15 Central Daylight Time, AJ and I will be interviewing them for Geeky KOOL Presents: The Professor and Ace. Check it out live on Youtube here or on Facebook here.
This was an amazing day. It took me back to my Theatre days as an actor. I so want to throw on a uniform and smack my acting chops. I would have been happy to been an unnamed red shirt to beam down and die. Instead I enjoyed being on set and watching the cast and crew. Watching first hand what it takes to just get a good 45 second shot in.
I also was geeking out at the sets they had built for this act of love for Star Trek. The sets were so beautiful and amazing. It feels like you are on an Original Series star ship.
Thank you, Joshua Irwin and the the cast, crew, and producers of the Avalon Universe for this opportunity to hang out and watch you work. The drive was so worth the time we got to spend with you all. We hope to do it again sometime soon.
Stay Geeky!
