Joe Quesada is a huge name in the comic book industry. Quesada started in the comic book industry in 1990. He made a name for himself with his penciling for Valiant Comics on comics like Ninjak, and Solar, Man of the Atom. Quesada moved over to DC Comics where he helped update the Golden Age character of The Ray. He also co-created the Batman character of Azrael with Denny O’Neal.
Joe went on to work at Marvel and helped create the Marvel Knights line of comics. He went on to become the editor-in-chief and the the Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Comic. In 2022, Quesada left Marvel with positive interactions on both sides.
The first thing that Joe did during his panel was to ask CB Cebulski to join him for the panel. Cebulski has been the editor-in-chief for Marvel since 2017.
Joe and CB appear to have a good relationship. Both had very positive things to say about each other. C.B. stated Quesada left him a nice letter when he took over the job as editor-in-chief of Marvel.
Joe Quesada is now the head of a new comic book company, Amazing Comics. This is a comic book company that focuses on telling non-superhero comics. Their first comic will be Disciple. Disciple is loosely adapting Hamlet. It will focus on Hamlet’s early life and his father. Joe did show how he is using 3-D imagery to create the world that Disciple is set in. It will be set in the present day and go thru time to the future. When asked why Joe is working with Amazing comics, he stated it is because he just cannot stop working in comics.
Quesada and Cebulski discussed the new The World to Come comics as it revisits Marvel Knights. Quesada is drawing and Christopher Priest is writing. The Black Panther is wearing a throw back costume to Jack Kirby’s original idea for the character with the “Cold Tiger” costume. Marvel Knights did change how Marvel did comics and they learned a lot of lessons from that run. They brought in comic talent to work on the best issues and no longer kept the different lines separated i.e. Spiderman line, Avengers line, X-Men line.
Joe and C.B. discussed how a new DC/Marvel crossover is coming. They were unable to share the details. They mentioned the last crossover was from Joe’s time as editor-in-chief. More information will be released in the next few months.
